From Adventure to Emergency: How a PLB Helped Save My Friend’s Life in the Wilderness

Unfortunately, things took a turn when my friend hit a hidden stump, launching him into the air. The impact resulted in a broken femur and a dislocated shoulder. He was in excruciating pain, and with only a few hours of daylight left, I knew we wouldn’t be able to get him out on our own.

In the end, we learned that David had a partial cervical fracture. Calling for rescue turned out to be the right decision, and we were glad to get him out of the challenging situation. Though our mission faced setbacks, we remained resilient, knowing that safety comes first in the great outdoors.

The route we had relied on to navigate the moraine wall and reach Ball Hut and the walking track had seemingly disappeared. It appeared as though nature had played a trick on us, washing away the standard path we had counted on. Even one of our seasoned members, with over three decades of experience in these wild terrains, admitted that he had never seen it like this before.
