What happened?

After summiting Snowmass Peak, a Colorado 14er, I fell 10 ft on the decent around 13,000 ft and broke my ankle. I was taken out by helicopter after crawling for 3 hours to get myself to a lower elevation.

Surviving South Canyon: A Fractured Wrist, a Beacon, and a Lifesaving Helicopter Rescue

Despite being highly experienced off-trail hikers, this was one of the toughest hikes we've ever done. The initial part of the "trail," which we had to follow back to the rim the day after the incident occurred, was extremely challenging.
