I went over the lip of the boulder and it crushed me against the side of a glacier; locking me in from shoulders to hip. I tried making my goodbyes to my family.

My eldest son had also badly sprained his ankle so they sat down, pulled the PLB and waited for rescue by local search teams at 2 in the morning.

Three years ago there were close to zero PLBs in Pohnpei. Thanks to a program with many donors and the Pohnpei Surf Club, the ACR dealer in Pohnpei, we were able to have around 300 boats equipped with ResQLink 400s.

She came over to help me back to my tent where my PLB was. On the way there I briefly fainted from the pain, but luckily I was caught before falling down completely.

We broadcast "Mayday" after the 2nd explosion, set off the EPIRB after the 3rd explosion, and expended both fire extinguishers.
