What happened?
We were on a backcountry camping trip in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, Crab lake. It was rainy throughout the day. The campsite was located on a granite outcrop which was very slippery because of rain.
Our friends arrived late at night when it was dark. Soon after we started to prepare for the night and move all our food away from the campsite, Sergei slipped on the rock and fell down. He broke his ankle.
We decided to use ResQLink+ to get help. Two hours later two men in a canoe arrived at our campsite. They secured Sergei’s leg and loaded him into their canoe and then moved slowly over the night to the portage to the next lake, where they moved him to the motor boat and landed him safely at the public boat launch. The ambulance was waiting for him already.
Words of wisdom
Always remember that you need a back up plan, no matter where you go. You never know what may happen.
Thank you note
We are thankful to all the people who helped to rescue our friend Sergei, and we were happy to have the ResQLink.
