What happened?
My girlfriend and I were headed in from 25 miles offshore and a great day of fishing when our boat started bobbing really bad (it was a perfect day – no wind, no waves). We stopped and realized the back of the boat was filling with water. The bait well pump had broken off and was filling the boat with saltwater. We plugged the hole but it was too much for the boat to take. We put on our life jackets, made a call on the radio and activated our PLB. Within 2 minutes of stopping the boat capsized. The boat didn't sink but rolled. We were able to climb on top of the hull and wait for the Coast Guard. A C130 arrived within 35 minutes of activating the PLB and a helicopter and Coast Guard vessel arrived about 20 minutes later. The Coast Guard vessel brought us in. And the boat was later towed in by our insurance. We are all safe. The boat will probably we a total loss. We lost most of our gear but we made it back home which is enough to be thankful for. We will never go boating without a PLB. The PLB was the only way we were able to get the help we needed. We will forever be grateful to ACR and our PLB for getting us home safe.
Words of wisdom
Never go out on the water without an EPIRB or a PLB. You never want to have to use it but in the event you do, know that help is on the way.
Thank you note
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Our situation could have ended so much differently if we didn’t have one of your devices. We will forever be grateful and will never go out without one.
